So, like I said, a lot has happened this week, but I would like to start off with something I have been thinking about a lot this week. So, I am reading the Book of Mormon over again and I also have started to read the Bible. And what I have been doing is marking every time that they say Christ or God or any of their names in one color and then marking when they are talking in another color. It has been a great experience and I have really enjoyed reading the BOM and Bible that way :) So, I would like everyone to take a paperback BOM and try is out! Its great! But anyways, Something that I read and have been thinking about is... in the Bible every lives to be really old and yes, they lived to be really old because they needed to multiply and replenish the earth but I was reading in 2 Nephi 2:21 and it says that the days of the children were prolonged according to the will of God, that they might repent while in the flesh. And as I was thinking about that and how we live such short lives. And I like to think of it as we dont have as much repenting to do because we really are a chosen generation. :) WE ARE AWESOME!! :D Haha
Well, I guess I will tell you about our investigator Drew. He is still wanting to get baptized this weekend but he and his fiancé are not sure that they will be able to live the law of chastity. So... They want to get married before he gets baptized. So.... They are getting married this week and Drew will be getting baptized on Saturday night at seven! I am so way excited for him and I know that he will be so blessed for following the Lords example and being baptized! :)
So, there was this guy who referred himself to mormon.org. So we go over to his house and his wife is there and she is telling us that he was wanting a Bible that has cross references. So, we go get him a Bible and we take it to him the next day. We walk into his house and he says thank you for the Bible and we see that he had a BOM on his table. So I point it out and I was like. Oh! You already have a Book of Mormon! Awesome! He then proceeded to tell us that he has been reading it and he believes that us Mormons are going to outer darkness. And that he has this burning in his hart that he needs to save us. I told him, well, we can sit down and talk about it if you would like. That appointment did not go well. I did not feel good about being there. He kept telling us that very few people are going to make it to live with Heavenly Father and I told him... Why wouldn't Heavenly Father want all of his children to return to him. He will do anything for us to live with him again. Then he proceeded to tell us some more things that were wrong with our church and things that we did or didnt believe. I was getting a little frustrated and I felt that we should not be there. So, I asked him again, why are we here. He then told us that he was saving the mormons. I told him, we are not here to bash on your religion. Our purpose as missionaries are to invite others to come unto Christ, by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ, Repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. We are not here to be attacked. If we are not able to fulfill our purpose here then I think that it is time for us to leave. (I said all of that in a loving way! :) ) He then said, I want to leave you with one more thing. He then read another scripture. We talked for another 30 min. I invited him to read the BOM and pray about it and read Moroni's promise and he said he would if I would read the New Testament and pray about it as well. I then said, so you are asking me to read the Bible, when I already have a testimony and know that it is true? He didn't really say anything after that. So we left :) I dont think that we will be going back. The spirit that was in that home was not good.
This week we were also able to go on exchanges and that was a lot of fun. I was with Sister McKnight and she is awesome! I was able to be my goofy self around her and that was great!
Exchanges are good because you can see the way that other missionaries teach and learn from them. :) I think that it would be fun to be a sister training leader so that I could go on exchanges once a week! Oh, mom asked when transfers are and if I will stay in my area. I am thinking that I will stay in my area because I am training Sister Andreasen and we are getting a lot of work done :) We have transfers on August 28th. And I am so happy that they are after my birthday in case I do get transferred because now I get to spend my b-day with people I know. I already know who will be feeding me on my birthday! It will be interesting to have a birthday away from home and on a mission. But I am sure that it will be great!
Oh! I have a challenge for everyone! Along with the BOM challenge. Everyone should make a mormon.org page and post it on your FB! It is a great way to share the gospel! Every member a missionary! Always remember that!
Well, we are going hiking today so my time is short. I love everyone and I hope that all is going well! I hope to get a letter from some of you! :) I love hearing about everything that is going on back home! :D
Love,
Sister Ashley Halbison
