Companion: Sister Andreasen
Well, something really weird happened this week! Sister Andreasen and I were driving home last Monday from our Zone activity and we had a flat tire! So, we get out and we call and wait for someone to come help us. As we were on the side of the road we were looking down the street and we see an ice chest. So, what do we do? We go check it out! We see that there is an address on it and that it is taped shut. We get our keys and we open it up and there was ice in it! Of course! Cause its an ICE chest. Anyways, we look through the ice and we see that there was a toe in it in a bag! I asked Sister Andreasen what we needed to do and she said... "We need to call a toe truck!!!" HAHAHA Yeahh, as you can tell, that story didnt really happen. Someone told that joke in sacrament meeting yesterday. Lol and it was great and I had to share it!
Anyways, now that I got all of my funnies out, I can get on to the real stuff! :) Last Monday was a pretty good day! We had a zone activity and it was pretty fun. We had a BBQ and we played frisbee. Well, I didnt. Lol I needed to write some letters. I was falling behind on that. :) But after our p-day ended we went out and saw some people. it was getting close to the end of the day and we only had 30 min left until we needed to be back in the house. And we needed to reach our goals for the day and we werent really sure who we needed to see. So, we said a prayer asking who we needed to go see. I had a families name come to my mind and it was the Papes. So, we go to their house and Sister Pape answered the door. She didnt let us in because she said that her house was a mess. So we just stood on the front porch and we talked to her. We were able to share a message with her and we met our goals for the day! It is really amazing how Heavenly Father hears our prayers and He will bring thoughts to our minds! That was a huge testimony builder right there!
Tuesday we had district meeting and it went really good! Sister Andreasen and I were asked to give a training and it turned out to be really good! We were asked to give a training on The Doctrine of Christ - Our Missionary Purpose. We had an awesome visual. We used M. Russell Ballards story from conference about the tomato plant.
And we compared it to our investigator. It actually turned out good :) After the meeting we all ate lunch together as a district in the gym! Lol we all brought lunches from home. It is always fun to spend time with the other missionaries! After that we went to the stake center and we practiced doing a church tour because we had one the next day and we wanted to make sure that we did it well. So a member came with us so we could practice. :)
Wednesday. Yup, you guessed it! We had our church tour! And I guess you could say it went pretty well. We extended a baptismal commitment, but she said "no, for today" we were kinda bummed, but we have an appointment with her this week. So we are hoping that we can talk to her more about it.
Thursday we were able to go pull weeds with Kenda! She is aweomse! It was fun being able to do some yard work. Everyone here has gardens and it makes me want to have one when I get home! Oh, and guess what! I love veggies now! YUM!! Well, after we pulled weeds, we went home and we had some more study time. Sister Andreasen had her language study, so I was able to have more personal study time. And as I was thinking about what to study, I was stuck. I wasnt sure what I needed to study. So, I started off with a prayer asking Heavenly Father how I could become a better missionary. And I asked what things I needed to study. When I was done with my prayer, I continued to kneel there looking at Preach My Gospel, the General Conference Ensign and my scriptures. and I really thought about what I needed to study. I had a thought come to my mind that said, Preach My Gospel pg. 84 So, I opened to it and the title on the page was missionary work. And as I read this section and the scriptures that go with it, I realize that I am a good missionary. Yes, there are things that I need to improve on, but I know that Heavenly Father is happy with the work that I am doing and I just need to have more faith in Him and in myself. I am very happy that I was able to have that time to study. We also had our weekly planning and it was probably the best weekly planning session we have had so far since I have been on my mission. We really thought about our investigators and what we needed to teach them! :)
Friday we went to the temple!!!! I was so excited! The new video is wonderful and I really enjoyed it! Something I thought about while I was in the temple was that dad was in the temple as well at that time. I felt close to him and I was so happy that I was able to feel the spirit that is inside the temple and I really enjoy being able to go. We were also able to see an investigator that we havent seen in over a month! Charles! He is back! We are excited to start teaching him again!
Saturday we were able to do a zone service. We went to our zone leaders area and we went to one of their members home and we pulled weeds. Their yard was horrible! It was like a sea of weeds! They were probably about five feet high. We spent probably about an hour and a half there and we werent able to pull all of the weeds. We probably got about half done.
So, next comes Sunday! It was a good day! Our day was packed full of appointments! We went to three wards and there was a ward, third ward, and there was a missionary giving his farewell talk. There were two youth speakers and their talks were... interesting. The young woman that gave a talk talked about marriage. She was 16 and she was able to pick her own topic. Very interesting talk. She would say something and then she would say to herself... Yeah, that makes sense. Then the other youth speaker was a young man. Probably about 17 and he talked about the law of chastity.. Uhh that talk was interesting as well. Then the missionary got up to speak and the other speakers took up a lot of time so he didnt have very much time to talk. But he stood up and said.. Well, I would love to thank all of my family and friends for coming to hear the other three speakers. Hahaha that was kinda a burn! Haha well, that is how that sacrament meeting went. At the end I said to sister Andreasen, I am very happy that we did not have an investigator come! But we did have an appointment with Martin and we extended a baptismal date to him and he accepted! And then we saw Charles and we set a date with him! Then we saw Drew and we talked about family history and he is so excited to do his history and do baptisms for the dead! He is getting the priesthood this next Sunday! We are so excited for him! :) He has been such a golden investigator!
Well family! I hope that you are all doing great! Next time you hear from me I will be 21! As mom would say, I am getting old! Ahhh!! I am kind of sad because now when I tell people how old I am they will think that I came out at 21 and I have enjoyed being a younger missionary. Haha I will just have to set them straight! Well, I hope you all have a wonderful week! :) I love and miss all of you guys!
Love,
Sister Ashley Halbison
